Support us Volunteer Hub Group Structure Aphasia breaks people’s connection from their families, their friends, their work and their world, we help them to reunite. Say Aphasia provides a supportive, inclusive space where people with acquired communication disabilities can connect, feel understood, and feel confident living with the condition. We strive for a world where people with aphasia stay connected to society and have a good quality of life. Group Purpose The aim is to bring together people with aphasia or other acquired communication disabilities in a safe, supportive environment where they can connect and socialise, where aphasia is understood. The goal is to reduce isolation, build confidence, and foster a sense of community for those living with aphasia. Group Structure Group occurrence should be held either weekly, fortnightly or monthly, and last up to 2 hours. A responsible person with aphasia willing and able to lead the group - Peer Leader volunteer. At least one other person without aphasia, willing and able to support the peer leader - Group Assistant volunteer. Additional volunteers who are able to volunteer regularly at groups - (at least one per 5 group members) Volunteers are trained by Say Aphasia in aphasia communication techniques. A dedicated volunteer to take responsibility for safely providing hot and cold drinks. A quiet, comfortable, safe location where people can meet on a regular basis. Table and chairs available in the space. Digital forms (we aim to have paperless administration) e.g. attendance forms, new member forms, and risk assessment documentation. Regular meet-ups between the volunteers (minimum of once every 3 months). Members 'Members' are adults who can benefit from the group who have any form of acquired communication disability. Though we mainly attract people with aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria and primary progressive aphasia. Got a question?
