I have the privilege of being chair of Selsey Community Forum and stepped in to lead the Selsey group when others were not able to do so. I am married to Di and have three children and eight grandchildren. Retirement gives me time to volunteer and watch cricket .

Running the Brighton Half for SayAphasia

I am running the Brighton Half (my first since 2020!), and am aiming to raise some money for local charity, SayAphasia. SayAphasia provides support for people in the UK with aphasia, a communication disability that can develop after stroke or brain injury, making it difficult to talk. SayAphasia provides supportive, social groups, organised by people with aphasia, for people with aphasia. They help tackle the loneliness and isolation which can accompany aphasia, while promoting better awareness.

Why we exist

This charity knows first hand the confusion, frustration and change that a stroke can have on a person and their family. We know that aphasia is not only a result of a stroke, but also head injury, brain haemorrhage, or a brain tumour. That is why we are focused on supporting anyone with aphasia or similar conditions. We have many people who come regularly to our drop in groups who have aphasia, dysarthria and apraxia.
